Share the wisdom of lived experience. Theoretical knowledge is important, but it does not tell the whole story. It needs experiential knowledge alongside it. Together, they create an enormous pool of knowledge about life with ADHD, with all its individual nuances. Now the Finnish ADHD Association wants to offer the opportunity to learn the basics of experiential activities for those who are unable to attend our courses in Finnish. We have created an English-language online course that introduces the principles of experiential activities and provides advice on how to start building your own experience speech. Below is all the information and link to course.

Speaker information:

I am Jenni Barnett-Erlandsson, primarily the mother of two children with neurodevelopmental disorders. Professionally, I am an instructor for children and youth with special needs and a Bachelor of Social Services. Before my current job, I act at the Finnish ADHD Association ADHD-liitto ry for almost ten years as a volunteer expert by experience and peer parent. I see my background as a great strength in my current profession as the coordinator of experiential activities and peer support at the ADHD Association. Please note the instructions on the Finnish website to participate in the course which will guide you through the translations, and what to click. The online course can take up to 1.5 hours (in person it takes 60 hours due to the interactive workshops but only in person in Finland)

16 Oct – Together for Every Child

The environment affects the development of a child. Encouragement and positive feedback create the basis for the formation of every child´s and young person´s self-esteem.

– Each country is facing problems and caring for the young person in preschool education can really benefit from support measures by both teachers and parents
– Educators and parents can work together for a child’s educational success
– There is a perception by parents of ADHD that influences their parenting experience
– The situation within a family if parents don’t recognize or acknowledge that their child has ADHD and how could be some outcomes for the child

We are delighted that our counterpart from CHADD represented by Karen Sampson Hoffman, MA, CDMP, is CHADD’s director of marketing, where she leads national campaigns, digital communications, and outreach for ADHD awareness, advocacy, and education. Understand and Encourage (Children, Parents, Teachers)

Meet the Host – Karen Sampson Hoffman

Karen’s work in CHADD (United States of America) has been to write factsheets, webpages, brochures, articles & newsletters, along with creating webinars and videos, all to provide evidence-based information on an easy-to-understand level. Sheo answered calls on the CHADD – Children & Adults with ADHD helpline & guided callers to resources or explained ADHD, its supports & treatments, plus the US laws regarding disabilities that callers can take advantage of to improve their lives. ADHD is much better understood as a brain-based condition rather than a willful one than it was even 20 years ago. However, the misunderstanding that it’s primarily a childhood condition, rather than lifelong, continues. Stigmas about evaluation and treatment – especially medication management – some based on misinformation and some on the stigmas related to mental health and the purposes use of medication. Unfortunately, there are prominent people and organizations that continue to deliberately promote misinformation. CHADD’s work is to support the ADHD community and provide evidence-based information on treatment options, up-to-date research, normalizing educational and workplace supports for individuals who have ADHD

Men’s Support & Mental Health Panel Webinar

Meet the Host – Tanel Peets

Tanel researcher, lecturer, board member of Estonian ADHD Association www.athliit.ee). As an adult diagnosed with ADHD & a parent of children with ADHD, Tanel has immersed himself in evidence-based ADHD research. His commitment to sharing knowledge is reflected in his work with the ADHD community, where he moderates online platforms and advocates for the dissemination of scientifically grounded information.

Presentation & Panelist – Representatives from CADDAC (Canada)

This year we are super excited to bring you information highlighting ‘‘Many faces of ADHD’. We encourage the ADHD community to increase awareness and understanding by sharing ADHD information and to support communities that can benefit them in various ways.

ADHD Europe have planned the following activities with our members and the ADHD Global Coalition. We are also absolutely thrilled to be supported by ADHD World Federation for the work we do, by assisting us to share our information to their network globally.

There is continued cultural “stigma & discrimination ”about ADHD amongst specialists, in the media and the general public.  Our member organisations in Europe have mentioned that professionals apply a psychoanalytic approach only instead of a multi-modal treatment approach for children and adults with ADHD. There are different viewpoints on ADHD as a disorder and on its medication in society, including approaches of non-pharmalogical / multi-modal approaches that can work alone or together for a person living with ADHD.

      Global ADHD Awareness Coalition

‘’ADHD Europe’s vision is to share experiences from across the globe as there is many people coming from different countries from all over the world whose lives are diverse in the world we live in today’’ –  ‘The Many Faces of ADHD’

Together we are shedding more light on ADHD and its challenges, as well as the treatment options and helpful supports, by sharing reliable information from evidence-based and peer-reviewed research. Our goal is to educate and support all people with ADHD so they may lead successful lives. Meet the coalition.
